Mountain Playlists

MUSIC FROM THE MOUNTAIN. With each hike, we like to bring a mix of songs… each individual brings a songs to kick our ass up a brutal climb, a song that speaks to our state of mind at that time… and a song that just belongs to the mountain (clearly we can’t help but bring more, but that is our foundation).

Keep in mind, we are all four VERY DIFFERENT SOULS… so our playlists aren’t going to take you on a smooth sailing, cohesive trip… but they will entertain. If you know us well, you’ll probably be able to pick out who chose which songs, if you don’t know us … this will be a fun introduction. There will be ups and downs… screamers and heart string pullers, dreamers and definitely songs that make you go hmmmmmm(?). And like Blackhawk says…. That’s just about right.

TRAILS LESS TRAVELED: In 2020 we opted for “trails less traveled.” Exploring some cool country, wandering both in an out of the designated Wilderness Area… Cloud Peak Res, Elk, Flat Iron, Gem, Firebox Canyon … “Oh, there’s a river that winds on forever…I’m gonna see where it leads. Oh, there’s a mountain that no man has mounted, I’m gonna stand on the peak…. No time for ponderin’ why I’m-a wanderin’.”

It was a challenging year and the trails less traveled offered up a similar experience… “But I can laugh and I can love and I can dream. And I can do hard things.” … maybe Lorde Huron, Birdtalker, LSD, Billy Joel, Tyler Childers, A$ton & Jim Stafford will reflect just that.

SINKS CANYON STATE PARK: “You got to find your people, the ones that make you feel whole, that won’t leave your side when you lose control, the ones that don’t let you lose your soul…” and your people that will chase the trail with you.

A trip to The Winds and Sinks Canyon, we had a lot to consider when choosing our songs… it was a road trip, a new mountain range and we had company… Kristen’s little guy, Sawyer… so we def needed to pick some songs in his honor,  along with songs that honored the landscapes or Wyoming. We dug deep, Depeche Mode, Nappy Roots, Canned Heat, Roger Miller & Toad the Wet Sprocket. Along with local favorite Ian Munsick, and folky magic maker Willy Tea Taylor.

FLORENCE PASS: Hiking Florence Pass is so much more than a trail taking you west to east across the Bighorns Mountains …. it’s like Ireland, Wyoming, the Moon, New Zealand…. all in one. Like the pass, our music mix is just that… an out of this world MIX. From Kenny Loggins to Rogers, AURORA to Pitbull to Rateliff to Madonna… Florence Pass… I’ll be yours ’til the end of time ’cause you made me feel, yeah, you made me feel I’ve nothing to hide…. Like a virgin, touched for the very first time.

(FYI: There is one song we apologize for, but Wendy brought it… and so it remain, sorry.)
