Competitor. Doer. Learner. While in my “real world” I often take on the role of planner, when it comes to our adventure crew, I relish putting into action others’ plans. It doesn’t matter to me where we’re going, what we’ll see or how hard it will be (OK, that matters, but not as much as it should). I just want to ensure it happens. Sometimes, that’s as simple as sending a text asking when we’re going. I’m also the resident nerd, as I always bring a book with me on our treks — even a textbook one year as I was working toward my master’s.

My tent mate! Kristen is a calming, rational presence. She has a brilliant mind and is a natural mentor – whether at work, on the softball field, or on an adventure. Kristen spent over a decade as one of the youngest (perhaps THE youngest) female publishers of a daily newspaper in our hometown and she is an inspiration. She is retiring from the publishing gig, moving on to the next challenge where she can lend her talents and help make a difference. Oh… and she is the GET. IT. DONE. person in my life!

Kristen, my sister in shanks, Chicago, high mountain skinny dipping & gangster rap, possesses a quiet power that the rest of us can’t begin to fabricate. By nature she is a true competitor, it’s GAME ON, but yet on the trail she actually has the ability to step back, stifle her commanding demon and just enjoy… all the while going word for word with Kendrick Lamar, “Humble”. She’s the youngest of us, but clearly the most mature. Where I wear my emotions on my sleeve, Kristen keeps hers securely tucked under her hoodie… but there’s nothing like a good day of technical climbing, a camp cup full of wine and a few good friends under the stars… where both Kristen and her emotions get to come out and breathe.
